What do we need to pitch?
I spoke with someone who pitches a lot to America and UK Network, and the word is paper is dead. No one pitches on paper anymore its all on a sizzle reel, i.e. a short sample (very short in our case) of the final product.
That's a pretty tall fucking order. Since the first pitch we were involved in made a boob precisely because it wasn't ready and wasn't broadcast quality.
I'm wondering if animation is any different? The chances of putting together a broadcast (finished quality) even ninety seconds in the time we have is a big, big ask.
I'm also conscious that if we want to pitch to UK Network and the States, then we'll need more than a sizzle reel, we'll need scripts, artwork and a bible.
Play safe. What we'll need is a bible, with realised characters, and script. So it'll have to be A4. But roughly drawn, nothing too well finished. Maybe with just a couple of very, very finished panels to show off our chops.
And a tiny bit of animation. One very quick scene that sums up the whole series. Something very clever.
But played to music, almost like a highlights rather than an actual scene. Somewhere between sell and screenplay but not too much of one, or too much of the other.
